What is a superstition? (And how do I dress as one)

A belief or way of behaving that is based on fear of the unknown and faith in magic or luck : a belief that certain events or things will bring good or bad luck. There are hundreds, nay thousands, of superstitions in the world that can inspire your dress theme for Friday night’s shenanigans – anything from  lucky underpants, lucky charms and leprachauns to black cats, colours, numbers, habits, culture, etc. We believe in you! 

What is an Era of Alison? (and how do I dress as one)

You don’t think Taylor Swift got her middle name and her birthdate randomly do you?  Al is fairly sure she’s the inspiration for many things (including the song – “I’m the problem it’s me) but we all know that Al has embraced many different looks, participated in many acts of madness and generally given you a LOT of material to work with here.  Throw on an akubra and a flanny – you’ve got teenage Al, wear a bathtub, carry some vodka and close your eyes – teenage Al again, and if you’re properly stuck – get Nick to connect you with the ‘gang’ in charge of this event.

Why does Al like parties so much?
She says “Because I have very lovely and interesting friends and I like any excuse to get them in the same place and show them off.  Like seriously, LOOK AT YOURSELF, why wouldn’t I want you in a room with me?”

Is this the hottest party ticket in town?

Probably not, but just in case, we chose a venue with air conditioning on Friday night, and we recommend hats and sunscreen for Saturday afternoon’s schmooze-fest.

Is this the kind of party where you meet famous people? 

Yes, assuming Al counts as famous since she has been on TV more than once, contributed to the same book as Oprah, has met several governor generals for morning tea, exchanged pleasantries with Bob Geldof, and won a TV quiz show.

What if I don’t know anybody? 

Al knows everybody, trust us– you’ll know somebody.

 Why are we getting so organised so early?

Because like all December babies Al has to compete with summer holidays, end of year work parties, Santa and the birth of baby Jesus to find a date and a venue.  And she really wants you to come.

 Do I have to come to both parties?

Of course not, this isn’t a facist regime, but Al only turn 50 once so you’re going to have a lot of FOMO and SHE WILL be bringing it up for the next 50 years if you choose to fly overseas and get a hair transplant that weekend instead.

Can I bring my small people?

The Soiree of Superstition is not for the small people but we very much hope you’ll bring them along to the Eras of Alison event.
